I was in a minor car accident today. I had a green light and had to slam on my brakes to avoid colliding with a car making a left turn. Apparently, the other driver had a green light but was supposed to yield to the oncoming traffic, hence, her fault. My car has no damage. He car has some scratches. Now even though the police told me she was at fault, she was not ticketed. My question is do I report this to my insurance company? I really do not want to even make a claim! Car has no damage and im a younger male driving whats considered a “sports” car. However, this lady thinks im at fault. Should i be prepared to be sued OT. Need some thoughts!

You should have called the cops and had the cops say she was at fault.

Too bad it wasn't a one car accident involving a tree.

If you don’t report it to your insurer, you are screwed when she sues.

On the other hand, if you do report it and she doesn’t sue, you’re screwed.

Take your pick.

What would your insurance claim be for if your car wasn’t damaged?

Doesn't matter if you report it. Gordon McKernan will report it in his demand letter.

She called the police, and I did as well. Police said she was at fault, but no ticket was issued to either of us.

This is going to sound crazy, but I would call my agent and ask if it is mandatory to report such an accident. They will usually be square with you...if not, get a new insurance agent.

Did you take pics? Send them to your insurance agent and explain what happened so they have that info in case her insurance carrier tries to collect from yours.

Did y’all exchange contact info? Does she have your plate #? If not, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yes I have pictures, but my car has no damage! This issue is, I think she is going to file a claim against my insurance. Do I just wait for that to happen, then let my insurance handle it. Otherwise, if she does not make a claim against me, I will not report the incident to my insurance.

I would say that is likely...people do some shitty things after an accident occurs.

My concern is that your insurance may have some clause that makes it mandatory for you to report...and if you don't, they may try to use it to wiggle out of defending you or paying if necessary.

We're both of you trying to beat the light? Seems odd the cop wouldn't issue a ticket and that you wouldn't want to get ahead of it with your insurance. It won't matter to your rates or history if you don't file a claim.

Were you rear ended? (sorry) If yes, no way you are at fault.

Say she does not file a claim against me, but reports the accident to her insurance company. In this case, can I still not make a claim. Im really trying to avoid a claim! I am getting robbed on insurance already. I pay over 260 a month with a clean driving record. I was not rear ended!
