Tough to negotiate when you literally can't afford to walk away from the table. Thanks boomers.

How is this the Boomers (or anyone's) fault?
Or are you being sarcastic?

Not nearly often enough...

I DO have one complaint about boomers...They have, as a group, reared a bunch of worthless progeny. All in the name of self-esteem, or giving them more, or some shite. Wanting to be friends with their children instead of parents to them may be the undoing of this country...

well, they should be retiring but they aren't because they didn't save for retirement.

The military has a much better reputation now than it did when many Boomers were job hunting. They have good tech programs, especially the Air Force, and those carry weight on a resumé. If the interviewer is a vet, you have an instant connection.

Sure, the military is not as "fun" as college but it's cheaper and a good place to pick up real skills whether those skills are technical or how to be part of a successful team. It's not a bad place to wait out a down job market.

not exactly, but just to clarify what he is getting at, the Boomers didn't take care of their business in life causing them to stay in the workforce longer and fricking up te natural flow and turnover so to speak...

Boomers did troll the frick out of everyone with making sure that SS was fastened in their back pocket, something Gen X and definitely not Mill will ever see in its current form

Most of them are in their 60s.

The whole concept of retiring hasn't been around that long. The real problem is they are living longer.

As of now I don't plan to ever retire. I'm saving for it in case I change my mine but if I don't the kids will just have more.

Roger, I don't know if the guy is just young and dumb (even though he has great connections, ) or just trolling...

SS, retirement is and always has been a 'by choice' kind of thing...Didn't even really exist 100 years ago. Now if you are in certain jobs it can be forced but it is NOT required in most. The natural flow of things was disrupted when people didn't want to grow up and get on their own...If 4 years of college is good, why not 5, or 6...then move back in with your boomer parents who are still working and coddling..

Life expectancy and productivity have increased. Being in your sixties means little. Regardless if income, many will work to their 70s.

Well I'm sure they'd love to retire. But you can't blame them if they're savings were wiped out. And yes, certain boomers were responsible for that loss of wealth. But you're guilty of "painting with a broad brush" blaming all Boomers. And young people hate to be stereotyped, so don't be hypocrites.

And even if the boomer retires, what about the 40 year old who expects to get his job? You think you should pass him too?
I mean what makes you think your so valuable to anyone? What do you have to offer?

I disagree a little on this. For most of human history, I'm guessing you had multiple generations under one roof helping each other out. Now, you're considered a total loser if you're not on your own right after college and in a house the minute you're married -- and a couple is also expected to do a great job raising kids even both usually need to work to make ends meet.

He's just repeating common misconceptions.

My guess is that these kids didn't do enough research before choosing a major and are now lashing out for someone to blame. I feel for the business grad starting at 30k but it's a choice they made.

yeah because it's all a perfect science.

10 years ago the first ten answers to a thread of someone asking for advice on a major was "Petroleum Eng" then 5 years ago a thread asking if anyone knew of any open internships or someone hiring for PE, the first 10 replies were "Trolololol good luck"

Anything regarding natural resources will wax and wane. There is a good payoff to that career but there will also be layoffs. I'm pretty sure most going in should understand that.
