By and large, that is what happened. We weren't bringing all that shite home. Iraqi government got a bit of it, and I am sure we surplused the rest of the heavy stuff.

More like the local thug militias got it and used it to terrorize their enemies over stupid unimportant shite.

I didn't mention the US Army's capabilities in this area during WW2, because I haven't seen it covered in any of the military histories that I've read, but, I'll bet that those ordnance and tank repair folks were just as good as the Germans, and probably better.
