It’s works about 70% of the time. I’m tall and have to sit in a minimum economy plus. So any extra room is appreciated. Only a psychopath chooses a middle seat

One time I was on a flight and they were looking and counting open seats, so I put my hat on my fist and made it look like some one was sitting in the middle. Stewardess gave weird looks while counting, but we were only row to not get a middle passenger. Person sitting at window couldn't stop laughing ,then bought me a few beers in appreciation.
