The hypothetical Sam Walton has created a generation of entitled pussies. Take out your fricking garbage. It takes minimal effort.

I didn’t say it never made sense.
I don’t usually travel with pets, and I dont usually stay somewhere for a full week. When you can allocate the one time cleaning cost over several days, it starts to make a lot more sense. But even at a 3 day stay, the $160 fee is a material difference in cost. And airbnbs have gotten terrible about providing absolutely nothing which eats into the savings as well.
I used to love to find little one bedroom airbnbs for 3 or 4 day trips, now with all the fees and shite, I can just stay in hotels for the same or less and not have to worry about having any toiletries provided or any of that as I usually don’t have a car either

You said
But they have at least 100 hotel rooms to clean - it sounded like you were talking about the difficulty of cleaning a 2000 sq Ft house vs a 300 sq ft room
I’m just curious as to why there is an additional cleaning fee? Why can’t the nightly cost cover the fee? Then no customer would complain about the ‘fee’.
I’ve never had much trouble with air bnb but the last few times, when I’ve been shopping around - they’ve been significantly more expensive than a hotel - and my plan is not to hang out wherever I rent, so I’ll put up with less space because chances are I’m only showering and sleeping there.
Plus, I’m going on vacation - I really don’t want to have to accomplish a list of demands from someone making a profit off of me. If I want to clean a 2000 sq Ft home like I already do, then I’ll just stay home.

All I know is that if Chicken banned complaining the OT, in it's current iteration, would cease to exist.

That's why you hire a crew of spic & spans.
So I’m going with the free breakfast buffet

My cleaners are actually all white, hard working people. I'm glad I can help support them and their family. Those people bust their arse. Without airbnb, their business would likely not exist. I also make no money on the cleaning fee. We often lose money on it.

If you book a hotel that has a kitchen and you leave your hotel with a sink full of dishes, you're just a douche. Same goes for an Airbnb. We don't ask guests to clean dishes, and we charge a small cleaning fee, but leaving a hotel or Airbnb with a sink full of dishes is just a dick move.
you'll never let anyone convince you that you're the douchebag
but YOU are the douchebag
you want to get paid and you want your guests to do the cleanup work

It’s YOUR cost of doing business, which is what you don’t seem to understand.
I don’t give a shite how much it costs you, when it increases my cost by 30%, I’ll go elsewhere. That’s a you problem

When my husband and I went to Florida a few weeks ago, I looked for an Airbnb close to where the focus of our trip was so we could walk - there was nothing

I have stated multiple times in here that we do not ask guests to clean up before they leave. Our only ask if that they put the trash can at the curb. We don't even penalize guests for not doing that if they don't.
However, if you don't clean up after yourself either in a hotel or an airbnb, then you have minimal consideration for other people and are likely a slob. Like our pal Odysseus who would leave his hotel room or airbnb with a sink full of dishes. That is a dick move. Entitlement, that is the entire point of the thread.

yes it's unreasonable and dishonest
you're "not including" the cleaning price in the rental price, because you want to gain the business with a "rental rate" that is "lower" because you're hiding the cleaning cost till later.
that makes you a liar
you're a dishonest ABNB guy and you're mad because you're getting called on it
I'll bet your online reviews are absolute shite

quote:no but you are on the nightly rental fee … and that’s a lot more than the cleaning fee

Am I supposed to feel sorry for you or something? You just made $2200 off of me but had to eat $20 because Wilma charges $160 but you only listed $140 along with taking out trash, refill toilet paper, fluff pillows, wash the sheets on cold, make sure they are in the dryer before check out, and leave every other light on the track lighting on??
Gimme a break
AND my 14 & 15 year olds are considered adults????

I think there is (or should be) an implied social contract you don’t leave anywhere a total fricking mess. I at least leave all of the dishes washed off or towels neatly piled up for example. I never leave shite strewn everywhere because I’m not an a-hole

Have you ever booked an airbnb before? The cleaning fee shows up when you go to book the unit. Or you can pick the option that shows the nightly rate that includes all of the additional fees/costs.
I'm beginning to think you're just an idiot. Go to airbnb, pick a random city with random dates. Let me know if the cleaning fee is hidden. Hint: it is not.

Odysseus has jumped off a cliff with his delivery, but I think the issue here really boils down to expectation.
I'm a dream hotel guest. When I check out of a hotel, all towels are neatly piled in the bathroom for pickup. If it has a kitchenette, any dishes used are washed and put away, or on a drying rack, or moved to the dishwasher. All trash is in appropriate trash cans. I leave my key card on the table. Etc.
I mostly do all of this because I keep a clean space myself and have no desire to spend any time in squalor just because someone else is paid to deal with it. I'm also a bleeding heart to a fault when it comes to service employees.
But if I went to a hotel, and there was a long list of demands that I do all of this when I'm paying for them to employ housekeepers, I would be annoyed by it.
