Most of my employees are Mexican. They refuse to drive their personal vehicles into Mexico when seeing family...they opt to take the 17 hr bus ride. Whys that?

Easy target for the cartel. Ours do the same thing.

I went to Oaxaca in 2015 and it was fine. No problems. Not even the hint of one.

Uh, not quite. Mexico City is more populous than any city in the United States. There is a lot of violence there, for sure, and even some pitfalls for the tourist. But overall, most tourists have a safe experience in Mexico City, which is (in my humble opinion) one of the most interesting and rewarding big cities to visit in the entire world.

Yep. Have a driver and that's about it. Stay at the Crowne Plaza there, go to the office during the day, and go out and eat at night. Never felt unsafe.

I love Mexico and have never had a problem. Even in bad areas.
I was always think, there's a reason the cartels don't want to frick with big American corporations. Would be bad business for them in the end.
They really don't want to draw any more attention.

Exactly. In Torreón they basically told the cartel if you leave businesses alone we'll leave you alone and ever since then the violence has been greatly reduced. As a result more and more American companies are expanding there.
I honestly feel safer there then I do in NOLA and certain parts here in Los Angeles.

Mexico is exhibit A of why traveling is so important to help frame your worldview, rather than forming opinions based off the news. According to the news, you’ll get kidnapped and cut up with chainsaws the second you cross the Rio Grande.
I’m white AF, know high school Spanish, and routeinly travel in and around Juarez day and night with no problem. Most of my time there is spent eating and drinking, and frankly I’m not even that careful. I obviously don’t go walking around looking lost in the outskirts or trying to meet cartel members. I’ve never felt unsafe, though I do admit to being nervous the first time. But you quickly realize that everything is fine and it isn’t the sensationalized war zone you hear about.
Mexico City - particularly the main/central areas - was one of the safest-feeling cities I’ve ever been to. And the people are hands down the nicest I’ve ever encountered in many major city.
If other places were judged by the same standard as Mexico we’d be issuing warnings about going to concerts in Paris or Las Vegas.
