What data, exactly, is being processed here, and elsewhere?

That’s enough power to send a Delorean to 1955 4.13223 times.

I’m guessing they figure they can get what ever they want in Louisiana so best to expand here, where they are starting to get push back in other cities and states.

this is exactly it. other places are pumping the brakes and Louisiana has the spigot wide arse open.

Holy crap! We paid off a half dozen politicians and they are letting us do whatever the hell we want. Let’s put it all down there! Best part? Their politicians come cheap. We couldn’t get one mayor in CA for what we spent on all of them.

That has always been the case. LA politicians are cheap and will work with you on taxes so it is a double benefit.

Now what is going to happen when the Data Center is shut down or surpassed by another data center somewhere else when big data moves to another area or country. Will it look like the old textile mills that covered cotton country or the GM plant in Shreveport that is still nearly vacant? Looking further in to the future, will the abandoned site rival the nearby Poverty Point site?

Too bad it will just store one and zeros, it would be cool if Facebook had a printed copy of every photo or video someone uploaded in there, just in case if all that data got lost in an EMP and wiped all the hard drives in the facility. Also, when ancient civilizations dig up the ruins they can find all the cat videos and photos, uploaded there like fish bones and spears at Poverty Point.

As far as Data Centers driving up costs, I just had to buy a hard drive for work to store a massive 45 TB archive. For a twin 26 TB drive array, it cost us over 3k.

Seems like Landry could have worked out free cloud storage for residents or something.

Considering where it was located in North La it is a positive for the state, nothing else was gonna go in that area. It’s been on the market for over 20 years.
