Maybe if we had shut down all gay clubs, quarantined and contact traced all the gays in the 80's we could have eliminated AIDS in America, amirite?

I mean if we are going to apply Draconian measures to the overwhelming majority of the population that will never sniff this virus NOR be affected by it if they get it, then in hindsight we missed a great opportunity to get rid of the AIDS, right?

I was in Upstate NY this week, for business. NY has a "mask in public, if distancing is not possible" executive order. I walk into convenience store, buy a bottle of water, walk to counter and cashier stops me.
"Sir you have to wear a mask in here, or I cant sell you that"
Me: I pull my shirt, longsleeve T, over my mouth and nose. Is this OK?
Her:"No it must be a mask"
Me: So if I cut a piece out of my shirt and attach a string to it, I'm good?
Her: Yes
I leave the water on the counter and laugh and walk out.
How stupid has our country become? Unbelievable.

When I was at Lowe's yesterday...most of the 65+ crowd were not wearing masks.

Sure, and that's kind of my point. Wearing a mask when I go to the store is risk mitigation. It's not entirely out of fear of my contracting it, but also a fear of me being a spreader of it. I've talked to a friend that is an RN at a hospital that has had cases. I definitely fear suffering as some of the patients she's described have, though I also recognize the chances of me both contracting and showing severe symptoms is pretty small. But then, so are the odds of my house being broken into, but I set the alarm every night and anytime I leave the house. It's a minor inconvenience to walk to the control board and set it, not unlike the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask when I go grocery shopping.

And I also recognize there are conflicting reports on the efficacy of wearing a mask. But on the off chance it does help slow the spread of the virus, I don't see the harm in wearing one. In most areas it is still just a recommendation, and even if one store requires it, chances are there is another store where it isn't required, so there are choices out there.
