ETA: Up to 9 lbs of meat a day for a man per Clark himself
Dude
They took far more than needed, because they didnt know what they faced. Heres a guides list of what travelers were expected to have per fay, and it included LOTS of OVERAGES

Travel guides recommended about 2 1/2 to 3-pounds of food per person (man, woman, or child), per day. This was more than sufficient provision but it was better to have more and not need it than to not have it and starve. A good example of acceptable provisions was referenced in the writings of Dr. John Rae who charted the infamous Victoria Strait

I realize your response was directed at someone addressing the consumption side of the argument

If they truly worked that much then there is zero possibility to consume 8000 calories purely due to the amount of time needed to consume 8000 calories. Something has got to give, you don’t work a 12 hr day from dusk til dawn and also have the time to consume 8000 calories.
To your argument....
These three guys regularly ate 10,000+ a day when at their heaviest:
Brian Shaw, Big Z, and Halfthor Bjornsson
Shaw claimed to eat 12,000+ when at his heaviest leading up to a big contest. Thor was probably in that range during the time leading up to him pulling 501kg. Big Z ate constantly when at his biggest, but never really counted calories. Eddie Hall may have topped them all when he was prepping to pull 500kg.
That said, and to your point, they (and other current guys) have to force feed to hit those numbers. They pretty much eat, train, recover, and sleep. They get almost constant calories however they can. Their training burns a shite ton, and they have to keep the intake going to fuel it.
You're right, time is the issue. A person can burn through 7-9k a day, but their lifestyle back then just didn't allow the time to constantly add fuel.

Unless you change the definition of “work,” this seems highly impossible.
