As some alluded to earlier, it is astounding the difference in pay between adults & peds in similar specialties.

What do you mean by this? Treat patients with bupe?

I don't know about all that, but based on the small sample size of the ones I know, neurosurgeons start out as BAMFers who at some point become awed at how much of what they're doing is still a mystery, then go off on weird spiritual tangents.

I'm not the poster you asked, but I think it would be pretty damn difficult to sustain a practice strictly writing Suboxone/Subutex with the ridiculous patient cap the government has imposed.

I would think addiction medicine would be a more inpatient type of treatment, anyone with a "X" DEA # can prescribe bupe.

Pathology seems boring AF

I guess the lifestyle is good but damn I hate staring in microscopes.

There are entire careers in pathology that rarely or never use a microscope. Pathologists manage laboratories and blood banking as well.

Was it the grueling 9-4 schedule, the 1.5 hr lunch breaks, or the complete freedom from dealing with a-hole patients that really got to her?

sometimes - it really depends on the case and what they need. many times it is more dealing with the underlying emotional disorder

I was just asking an example or a for instance I just as easily could have said do you worth at a MMT clinic.

And theres other addiction meds and just meds in general for people who may be self medicating.

I was mainly just curious in general.

Im looking into Emergency Medicine now. Not a bad residency, ability to work anywhere, great hours, great pay.

That or ENT with a big time goal of a neurotology fellowship I think.

Thing is I want a good family life.

I'd recommend you look at happy. Of all the Doctors I've been around Anesthesiologists are the most happy and easy going.

Overall/on average, I agree with you.

Easy to see why, too: Good pay. Good hours. Predictable/manageable/humane call schedule. Less patient BS to deal with. Can pick up, move almost anywhere, and find a new job.

Anesthesia is a good gig but with the advent of many places using nurse anesthetists instead to save money the job market is a lot harder

Frozen coverage starts when surgeries begin, so typically around 7:30 or so. And yes, pathologists don't deal with a-hole patients...they deal with a-hole surgeons. Not saying that path is the hardest or most grueling field, but there's a lot of stress involved. It's easy to sue a pathologist because slides and tissue blocks are saved. That biopsy that with a few malignant cells? Dr. Smith says those are reactive. Unfortunately the patient had a whipple. I hope you have a back up career.
