Because the skin on women's hands gets thinner and wrinkly and gloves hide age. Once one's hands reach 70, they show age and there's no treatment or face lift that works because the skin is so thin and slow to heal from scratches, etc.

Look how long a much younger Madonna has been wearing gloves. And (ugh) Jane Fonda's face looks smooth, but noone has seen her bare handed for photo events for at least two decades.
