If you're in the market for a new or used car, McAllen is the place to go!

On paper and documented, you're right.

However, "off" paper, furthest from the truth. Many do very well there.

In fact, they have a tremendous amount of luxury dealerships - surprising because the reported income there is less than $17K per person.

don't know if this has anything to do with it, but McAllen/Laredo are two big re-entry points for "U.S." manufactured cars that are assembled in Mex(parts shipped down there assembled, sent back) also, a big chop shop exit point

Think I'm going to try and stay on South Padre. Need the exact dates though before booking.

McAllen isn't all that bad. Believe me, I had the same thoughts as you are experiencing right now, but in the end - if you stay in the safe areas, just like any city, you'll be fine. There's a mall, movie theater, typical restaurants and South Padre is only about an hour away (I believe) and Corpus Christi is 2 hours away.

I found everyone that I came in contact with to be extremely nice.

Plenty of hospitals down there - if you work your area correctly, you'll make some cash.

That's a long drive. The speed limit in South Padre is like 20 or so on the whole strip, too

Just stay in McAllen.

First, as I said earlier, "that bad" means it's that bad. If you can't describe a place without using that phrase, then it sucks.

Secondly, I don't really care how nice the people are. I want a place to be entertained, and my territory is pretty large and they allow me to do overnights, and I have clinics in South Padre. I'd much rather leave my apartment a half an hour early, have tons of fun bars near me, tons of hot chicks coming weekly, and be able to lay out on the beach on weekends for free, rather than live in a place I know I'll despise, not run into really anyone my age, and pay out the arse if I want to go over to South Padre for the weekend.

Thirdly I don't make commission in my role.

I got a ticket for public urination there. Skipped town and never paid it. You mind swing by and checking on that for me?

Weren't you the poster that was in China for a while?
If so, you should be used to some culture shock.

Personally, I found the RGV to be really depressing, but if you're only gonna be there a couple of months, embrace it and learn Spanish.

Yeah, but there was plenty of shite to do out there. I get bored quickly, and living in a town with not shite to do gets old quick.

Well first it doesn't suck. You came here asking how it was and what to do with the mindset that is sucks. I've spent 6-8 months of my life just in McAllen. I've adapted, made money, eaten great food, met plenty of great people and enjoyed myself.

Second you want to hang out on the beach, have tons of bars, hot women weekly then why the frick did you ask about McAllen? And if you pay out of your arse and can't find anyone your age then you aren't that bright. If you despise the place ( which apparently you have never visited) then find another rookie sales job and quit complaining.

Third if you don't make commission seems like as above. Rookie sales.

And all the learn/speak Spanish is bullshite. I do work there. I own the company. They want to work for me they speak English or find someone that does or they don't work.

They want to get paid they learn English in a minute. They all speak English.

I almost took a job in Laredo..glad I didn't. I drove downtown when I was there for the interview, and went right to the rio grande. You don't even need to leave the country to experience Mexico..it's right there in downtown Laredo

I'm in an elite training program in a Fortune 500 company. When I get promoted, I'll be comfortably in the 6 figure salary range. I'm currently the 3rd youngest person in the division. I'm doing pretty damn well for myself.

Every company thinks highly of themselves.

Six figures is great, only if you can live on less than what you make.

Very humbled I can tell.

Great hunting if you are into that. Hopefully you will have a few firearms with you, at least at home. We used to dove hunt there before it got all crazy and had some great hunts! Good Luck!
