You sort of know by the tone of the cries that it's not pain.

He's got a special cry for "I need to potty but can't find the bathroom!" He's got another for "it's been AT LEAST two whole hours since you fed me!". And still another for "I'm hanging myself with this brassiere, come undo me!"

Same thing happened to my dog at 15 years of age. I still cry sometimes when I think about him and how he died. I loved him more than words can describe.

He looks terrified.

You seem like the type to have him stuffed.

My girlfriend's mother has a blind dog, he just follows the chihuahua everywhere. I'm stuck with an old deaf dog who I wouldn't trade for anything.

Our beagle went blind and deaf slowly. She adjusted to it ok. She was actually easier to deal with once she was mostly blind. As she had a harder time getting into trouble.

we knew it was time to put her down when she would fall down after doing basic stretches.

Dealing with aging pets is so hard.

We lost our 16 year old lab in September. She was nearly deaf, nearly blind, had dementia, arthritis, and was occasionally incontinent. For the last 6 weeks of her life, I was with her constantly when I wasn't at work. Until the last day or two, she was still able to go for short walks, and she always had a good appetite. We put her down when it was harder and harder for her to get up by herself. I still miss her and think of her every day.

Tip: Dogs are very stoic, and if they show any sign of distress at all, they are already in a lot of pain.

When he can no longer gain his feet from his sleep or a fall is when it will be his time. He's one sturdy, stubborn little fellow.

It was a shitty day at my house and ruined the football game. I don't even think I watched it. I took pics and throughout out the week I told people my dog was an LSU fan. They got a kick out of it,

This is a sad thread. But, if you own dogs, you know it is an issue you'll face one day.

My dad (91, Marine vet of WWII, Korea and Vietnam) had a pack of foxhounds plus dogs around the house. I'll never forget the day he came up to me and said "I just can't put down and bury another dog."

Sad to hear, but at 17 are you sure the blindness is causing the crying? Our youngest pug is 7 and lost her sight 5 years ago. Happy, healthy and has our house memorized. Runs to her bowl when it's time to ey. Good luck. Hope he can adjust if that is what it is.

I had a golden retriever that my parents got when I was born that lived until I was 16 yrs old.

Her last year of life was pretty bad..she became blind, deaf, and had bad arthritis. I got to where I couldn't stand to see her that way and had to put her down. It was hard to do, but necessary. She was no longer enjoying life and I feel she would probably have thanked me if she could. She couldn't even hardly walk

A Dog's Final Day

That made me cry.

Our thirteen and a half year old Golden is nearing the end. She can still see, but not sure how well. Mostly deaf. Is having a hard time getting up and sometimes has a hard time walking. Poops wherever. I know we need to have her put down, but she still likes her food and still seems to enjoy being loved on.

My golden turned 13 yesterday. He's almost completely blind and has various health problems, including arthritis. He still enjoys short walks and loves the family. I know it will not be much longer, and I hope I'm able to determine the right time.
