Tornado coming into Panama City now from the Gulf. Strong.

You know nothing about weather.

Yeah good catch. Orange Beach, Pensacola, and Panama City under the gun from GOM tornadoes.
ETA: You don't see that outside of a tropical event.

Yikes. It's crazy they're still kicking up this late at night.

"You know nothing about weather"
WTF??? I'm not an expert but am a bit of a weather nerd that has followed all the expert threads like talkweather.com for years. I wasn't saying it was a continuous waterspout over the Gulf but it was a strong rotating supercell that formed southwest of Boothville, LA this afternoon. I followed it all day because I was concerned it was making a beeline for the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay where I was. It was one of the most dangerous supercells that formed all day and fortunately it didn't start off on land because it would have most likely been a long track tornado if it did. Even so this same cell produced tornadoes in Pensacola and again near Dothan, AL about an hour ago.

Boothville isn't near south lafource.

That scenario is unlikely...
What's a more likely scenario? I'm curious with regard to just how long a tornado can track. Can the tornado form and then revert to a rotating supercell and then back again to a tornado when atmospheric conditions allow?
That supercell was observed on radar for hours, and I'm curious about its nature and form during those hours at sea.
If you could provide insight, it would be appreciated.

It's not that it couldn't... It's just that the cells that crossed the lake were going NNE to NE most of the day.

I don't know why it is so difficult for people to believe the supercell existed from Grand Isle to Pensacola and beyond. There was definitely a cell out there this afternoon and that stayed in the gulf all afternoon.

There was a system, not a cell.
Posted on 2/24/16 at 12:29 am to slackster
I saw it but just because it's a supercell doesn't mean it had a rotation strong enough form tornadic activity. It may have produced several water spouts in the gulf.

Looks like one event to me. Cell, system, call it what you want, but it was one in the same.

Govtide said it had a tornado over the gulf which is absurd.
No one is arguing the cell was there. Just the over the top ideas around it

It almost assuredly had a tornado over the GOM at multiple times. I agree it is ridiculous to suggest this thing produced one tornado that tracked nearly 200 miles, but it was showing radar indicated tornados all afternoon.
