Sending humans to Mars is noble idea. Being on Mars is worse than standing on the peak of Everest on a good weather day. In the end the solar radiation will have to be overcome some how, you can't survive on the surface without some serious protection. And if if you plan to send half a dozen folks in a ship half the size of a small RV they will literally go crazy. Imagine no privacy for 2 or 3 months with 5 other guys and gals. Musk and Branson are trying to make a buck of this project.
