It is my sole income. My husband was laid off earlier this year from oil/gas. You would have seen that had you read my entire statement.

lnch is going to say that you don't count because your husband had an income when you bought the house and allowed you to have a savings now

Guess I missed that part. Still not comfortable, and

I acknowledge that. Sorry for your situation. That sucks.
The person that is so insistent on downvoting my posts is an a-hole for downvoting this one.

You're damn right I am.

You worked in the service industry. Where were you living by yourself that was cheap enough to for you to do all the other stuff you claimed you did? Don't tell me with your parents
I rented a one bedroom apartment. It wasn't the greatest or most up to date, but it was close to down town and in a great neighborhood.
Why would an occupation in the service industry require one to live with their parents? The top servers at our restaurant made about $50,000 a year, the bartenders made more than that.

Doesn't sound like you were really saving for retirement.
I'd budget my earnings after the first week of the month and sock away a coulple hundred (I tried to put away at least $150 a month).
When I say money got tight--that would translate to: i partied too much for a couple of weeks and by the 20th, if i didn't already have enough for rent, I'd pick up an extra shift or two.
One of the comfortable things about the service industry is that it is extremely flexible.

It wouldn't, all the extra shite you claimed to do doesn't really add up though.

You don't need to apologize. We planned for it and knew it would happen. We're fine and very happy. But thank you.
I was trying to address the fact that a family CAN live off of this. We were able to take advantage of that comfort prior to living on this salary.
So it is not realistic to think someone can buy a house on this salary. But you can sustain a life on this salary. We would still be able to afford a nice rental home. Our mortgage is equal to the monthly rent we were paying before we purchased.
We haven't touched our savings yet to pay for our monthly needs.

Did say that though.
Again, I hope your husband finds work soon.

That goal post gets moved when it's convenient.

some just went off the question in the title and not the question in the OP
lnch is holding everyone to the question in the OP

What a crazy concept.

Again, you must be right, I completely imagined my mid twenties.

I saw others state otherwise and was addressing more of the blanket of the conversation rather than specific points of your argument. I wanted to explain that I am an actual person who fit the salary exactly. Just wanted to show what we can/can't do right now.

No, but you're likely exaggerating and leaving out forms of assistance you may have gotten from parents or somewhere else.

No. Once people disagreed with him he threw in the caveat that you had to be able to do whatever you wanted

No, someone else brought that up, not me.
