Man takes photos of police, arrested after favored returned

A decision to photograph narcotics detectives at work last week brought a man in Martin County some unwanted attention from authorities.
Steven Smith, 35, was taking cellphone pictures of detectives pulling a car over and questioning its occupants when detectives took out their cellphones and returned the gesture. Deputies recognized Smith while looking at their photos later and learned there was a warrant for his arrest for violation of probation, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputies arrested Smith on Dec. 30 after tracking down his address. Smith then had another photo taken by the sheriff’s office, this time at the Martin County Jail. He remained in custody Wednesday without bail.
