New Orleans Police reported a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 4) in the 3000 block of Broadway Street, in the Marlyville-Fontainebleau area.
At the scene, more than a dozen people crowded on nearby porches as police cars pulled up.
quote:
Police said the man who was slain had been shot more than once, at about 12:18 p.m.
"He just kissed me the other day," said Jacquelyn Reeda, who said she was Stone's great aunt.
quote:
Stone comes from a New Orleans family plagued by violence. His mother, Melissa Stone, a lifelong resident of the city, was killed in May 1998, abducted on her way to meet friends for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest. Her body was found three days later in an an abandoned apartment in the Desire public housing complex.
quote:
Three of his six siblings were also killed in New Orleans shootings. In 2011, his brother Ken Stone, 20, was killed in an Uptown triple shooting. Three years later, his other brother Gregory Stone, 25, was killed in the 7th Ward. Then, in 2016, his sister, Glenquel Emerson, 20, was one of three murdered in a Mid-City shooting.
quote:
Multiple children sat on the porches of nearby homes. Some played with their phones. One stroked a small brown dog and another sat while an older woman braided her hair. Occasionally, they'd lift their heads to look toward Stone's body still lying in the street.

This story and the outside information is depressing, Jesus

That's near Gerttown, not really a good part of town. The new Police station just opened up a few blocks from there, Dist.2 , the old one was on Magazine St and Napoleon.

All of these murder stories lately are written by a new chick named Hanna Krueger. I truly appreciate that she is attempting to do something beyond "another dead body in the street" but I find her off-hand comments about the scene annoying as frick.
GTFO with this shite. Being a journalist isn't coy musings about the crime scene. Nut up and get a quote from the District Commander. Write about how many homicides in that area over the last six months. Talk about the crime rate overall in the city at this point. Troop down to the Mayor's office and ask a hard question. Don't tell me some kid is watching from the stoop.
More importantly, doesn't John Georges pay Editors to tell their reporters this type of shite?

This sums up 90% of violent crime in Nola. There are like 5% bottom feeding cock roach families causing most of the murders while living off of that section 8 and other welfare funding.

I take Walmsley/Broadway as a shortcut uptown all the time. I didn't realize it got so sketchy so close to the school. But looking at Google street view I see that it does.

Same. I take Broadway off of Earhart every day/night.
It's pretty bad until Prtichard/Walmsley
