I just read all 57 pages, and it did not disappoint. Kudos to dcbl for letting this ride without an anchor request.
I think there is substantial reason to believe the massage guy received a major “green light” of some kind to have sent messages so direct to someone he’d had a face to face interaction with (and knew he’d see in the future). Shooting your shot with randos you meet at a bar or something is one thing. There’s zero on the line in being shot down. Doing it in such a manner with someone you knew you’d have to at least see casually in the future is a whole different ballgame, IMO. I don’t think he knew the lady was married, and it’s pretty clear he felt confident/comfortable enough to be that bold.
There are a lot of questions that need answering, and I’m sure the OP has asked some difficult questions to his wife. I genuinely hope they get it figured out. Unlike SCLibertarian, I think this whole thing is legitimate. Leaving the phone number in the screen shot was a really unfortunate slip up.

He wasn’t looking** for advice, he was looking for someone to pat him on the back and tell him what a badass he was being and that it was okay to taunt this guy into a fight.
