The man, Troy George Skinner, 25, was found with duct tape, pepper spray and a camouflage folding clip knife with a 2.75-inch blade

The mother warned Skinner several times that she had a gun. After he broke the glass, reached inside and attempted to unlatch the door, she fired twice. One round struck him in the neck, the sheriff said.

Is Goochland next to Taintville or Grundleburg?

Don't they teach their children in foreign countries that we have guns in our homes here in the U.S.? Even our native burglars know to stake out a house to see how likely it is they'll get shot before deciding to break in. I guess that 14-year-old was irrestible to him.

A door is supposed to be a barrier. A sturdy door is a first line of defense that buys someone time to grab their weapon when someone is trying to forcefully gain entry. I don't see doors with glass windows large enough to access a deadbolt/door lock from the outside a great idea....But just my .02.....
Glad she at least had a .22 and knew how to use it, but I'd advise her to get a 9mm and get familiar with it. She is fortunate the attacker was...."what he was" rather than someone more determined.....The .22 worked in this case- but there are better options available.

Too bad he didn't die. A grown man meeting an underage girl is reason enough.

Why would you let him get all the way through the door? If you want to kill him, breaking the window and sticking his arm in to inlock the door is ample for self defense
It really doesn't make any difference if I'm standing a safe distance away. I'd rather the fricker's corpse be lying firmly inside my domicile so there is NO opening for the "you shouldn't have shot him crowd" to start protesting for my arrest.
