However, if some dumbfrick goober decides to run into the room then there's really not much they can do.

Sure you can with card access. Doesnt have to be literally locked with a key. The control room entrance should be locked

I googled "items that weight 20 lbs" and here is a list.
It must of been platinum (I know it weights more than gold, but there are heavier metals than platinum.. I am just trying to get an idea of his chain).

Not even necessary. They have multiple "zones" and someone's relatives should have never been that close to the door.
