A Monroe man is facing multiple charges after a Friday incident.
According to an arrest report for Kenny January, age 53, January failed to stop at a stop sign and then continued driving after a deputy turned on his lights and siren.
At a subsequent stop sign, January stopped and reportedly rummaged in his center console before continuing down South Second Street in Monroe and stopping in the 1500 block.
Per the report, January failed to exit the vehicle and placed his right hand behind his front passenger seat. When he was advised to show his hands, he refused to do so
When deputies attempted to remove January from the vehicle, a struggle followed. The arrest affidavit states the suspect grabbed the officers firearm at his waist and refused to release it.
January was later secured in handcuffs and reportedly told officers he was hiding an alcoholic beverage behind the seat.
Booking deputies located two grams of suspected marijuana inside his right boot. The suspect later said he was afraid of being arrested for the marijuana when he refused to cooperate with police.
January was booked on charges of contraband in a penal institution, a stop sign violation, resisting an officer, attempted disarming of an officer and possession of a schedule I controlled dangerous substance.
