Taken that broadly, mall security is going to be busy as frick

Oh. And you can't use the definition of solicit in this case. You have to use soliciting which on fact, has a more specific definition

You have no idea what you're talking about. Approaching strangers to talk about religion or whatever absolutely fits under the label of soliciting.

The mall cop was doing his job and trying to be polite. The guy with a camera was acting like a douchebag. There's no controversy here.

He thinks that his religion is afforded special privileges that other organizations aren't. He's a dumb arse just like that guy in the video.

The SEAL's name is Chad Williams. His story is incredible and he is a great dude. Google Scott Helvenston, he was Chad Williams trainer before Chad went to be a SEAL. You will never stop this guy from sharing Jesus. The security guy flashing a cross mis spoke, mis quoted, and didn't know what he was talking about.

Mall cop was in the right.

I miss the days when "Navy Seals" did not feel compelled to tell everyone they are "Navy Seals"

So, you're asserting the word "solicit" and "soliciting" don't have notably different meanings?

Hmm. Which of these examples applies?
quote:

verb (used with object)
1.
to seek for (something) by entreaty, earnest or respectful request, formal application, etc.:
He solicited aid from the minister.
2.
to entreat or petition (someone or some agency):
to solicit the committee for funds.
3.
to seek to influence or incite to action, especially unlawful or wrong action.
4.
to offer to have sex with in exchange for money.
verb (used without object)
5.
to make a petition or request, as for something desired.
6.
to solicit orders or trade, as for a business:
No soliciting allowed in this building.
7.
to offer to have sex with someone in exchange for money.

Meh. I'm atheist but, I see nothing here worth stopping and, it damned sure isn't "soliciting" as ANY rational person has ever used the term prior to mall cop.

Just because you served in the military doesn't give you carte Blanche. Mall cop was right.
