Just got off the phone with my dad, and in a week he was supposed to be taking the same flight from Amsterdam to Malaysia. Told his company to get him another route and airline.

Yeah... No one will be flying anywhere near there. Not much to worry about

well they are reporting now that it was probably russia

It probably wasn't Russia. But pro-Russia rebels. It's indirectly Russia's fault for causing this problem in the first place months ago.

The rebels have been claiming they've been shooting down Ukrainian military aircraft recently. It's fairly obvious they thought it was a military aircraft.

The only good thing about terrorism or plane crashes is it gets Richard Quest on CNN.

I agree, I highly doubt Russia shot it down. Putin may be an arse, but I don't think he's crazy enough, to shoot down a commercial airliner.

He is on CNN International all the time.
If you'd pony up and get Uverse, you could watch him.

Whoever fired the missile knew exactly what they were firing at. The tracking/ coordinate systems require detailed info to have a strike. A commercial jet is EASILY identified in this process. A large part due to eliminate a "mistake" like this occurring. And military aircraft " move" different and track different. Firing a missle and striking a plane at 33000 feet is not the same thing as Arnold Schwarzenegger firing a RPG and saving the world in Hollywood.

When Boris and Piotr are operating the controls with a half-empty bottle of vodka between them, I imagine those fail-safe mechanisms are disabled or ignored.

Maybe it is just me, but the prolific use of the word "accident" to describe this tragic event is bothersome. It may have been mistaken for a cargo plane, but describing it as an "accident" seems disrespectful to the families who lost their loved ones today.

Accident has the connotation that it should be forgiven. Under no circumstances should this be forgiven.

His teeth for sure.
As for his orientation, as with all Europeans,it's difficult to distinguish.

Back to the seriousness, though......

How else would or should it be described? They weren't trying to take down a commercial aircraft.

Perhaps. They certainly weren't taking precautions against it.

If I close my eyes and shoot a gun into a crowd, I certainly wouldn't claim it was an accident if/when I killed an innocent bystander.
