NO is more of a 9mm town but Lafayette leans toward .45

So you'd save money on ammo costs.

Then again, you'll need more ammo in NO, so it's kind of a wash.

Really good advice

Hence my use of the phrases “if memory serves” and “who knows really.”

I do have some advice for you as well. First, seek remedial education to improve your reading comprehension. Second, go frick yourself.

I don't get the love for Old Jefferson. Some streets are ok, others are pretty run down, and your main retail thoroughfares are Jefferson Hwy, which is pretty shitty, or Airline, which is really only decent within a few blocks of Causeway.

Old Metairie is great, but for $1500 a month, options are very limited. Harahan and River Ridge are fine choices but a bit segregated from the rest of the world, North Metairie (above Vets) is the best bet IMO

That’s the reason for the love. Old Jefferson is a relatively safe neighborhood that doesn’t flood, is close to OP’s job and affordable in this price range. No one is saying it’s Malibu on the Mississippi.

Bucktown.

Jefferson Parish east of Causeway has a lot of appealing areas. Really miss living in that part of the world.

The only drawback of old Jefferson is lack of grocery in the immediate area.

Still, it’s quiet & feels more like uptown than suburbia

When my son was going to Tulane he lived at Chateau DeJon Apartments on West Esplanades at the foot of the causeway,
He had classes on the main campus and some at the Elmwood campus.
Apartments are close to Lakeside Mall, Whole Foods, lots of places to eat and shop on Veterans.
I sometimes wish I would have kept the apartment after he graduated.
That was 4 years ago things may, probably have changed.

I’d go with a .45 it has more stopping power than a 9, but don’t leave it in your vehicle at night, or a hood rat may take it.

As noted several other times, River Ridge … you’re in Jefferson Parish and 5 minutes from work

So you’re making a career shift into Jefferson Parish not Orleans. In old Jefferson/Elmwood/Harahan not New Orleans. Completely different worlds.

It really depends what you want to do on your off time. The appeal of living in the city is the walkability to restaurants, bars, stores etc. If you don’t care about that stuff, then a place in Metairie is what you want.

I'm sure OP will really feel left out. I mean, how can you survive without plaster-and-lath walls and ante bellum cockroach infestations? It's hardly even living at all!

Yea. I’m a big believer that two of the secret ingredients to a happy life are:

1. A decent grocery in walking distance and
2. Easy to commute to and from work.

Check those two boxes and things are mostly going fine.

It’s actually shockingly fast to get from uptown to Elmwood via river road. Like 15 min commute. I’d take a look at duplex or quad apartments near Black Pearl/Carrollton
