Look at nice restaurants, their "lunch" menu is served between 11am and 2pm. Their "dinner" menu is served from 5pm until close.

You can often order off of the dinner menu at lunch time. They conveniently offer a "lunch" portion for those folks who take their dinner in the evenings.

Restaurants will cater to you, but they know which meal is lunch and which is dinner.

I think it is a geographical/generational thing.

My grandparents are old country folks in their 80's and they refer to lunch as dinner. My grandma would always cook 3 meals a day - Breakfast, Dinner, Supper.

I use "lunch" as more of a workday meal term.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and snacks in between. Supper is unnecessary.

Supper is technically the night meal while Dinner is the biggest meal of the day that can take place at lunch or supper time..

This.

I don't know why this topic keeps coming up.

My grandma is 80 and says that too. She's from New York though, so I originally thought it was a Yankee thing.

You are having breakfast for dinner.

This must be a generational thing. Because I only hear old people refer to dinner as supper.
