Dude, I felt violated for sure. That was my personal thing and she took it from me. It made my life whole, but made me incomplete.

how much did you contribute to it yearly and for how many years?
10% from every pay period for the past 25 years. Plus my employers matches.
And they also every few years offer a early retirement buyout where if your age plus years of service adds up to 70, you get a buyout of one and a half year salary to take early retirement. Last one they did was in 2016 and I missed the cut off by two points. So by the time another rolls around I’ll be eligible for an additional $140,000.

For some reason I tend to do that here. Not sure why.

My eyepatch helps with panhandlers and beggars.
I had some dude on the drivers side of my truck keep trying to get him to notice me. But I kept turning my head JUST enough so that I couldn’t see him. A little back and forth game. He’d move right, I’d move right. He’d move left, i’d Turn back left a bit and he’d wave his arms, then i’d Turn back to the right and look at my computer.
Finally after about 5 minutes of this he gave up and went to beg someone else

I only have two kids. My oldest is starting his junior year of HS. He’s decided he wants to be a professional welder. He’s doing dual enrollment at Wallace State in a full ride scholarship starting in a few weeks. Two years after graduating HS he’ll have a degree in welding.
As for my daughter, I’ve got her college fund already set aside and gaining interest.

Beggars are getting more brazen. I don't like when they just stand by my window. Makes me super nervous. I just always have my sunglasses on and look straight.

cool, good to know. i do 15% into the 401(k) plus other savings accounts and a couple of rent houses. all the online retirement calculators i do are all over the place. some say i'll come up short, some say i'm on track. it's nice to hear some real world numbers for a change.

The key to a good retirement is early planning and saving. As soon as I came home from the army and got a job, I started planning for retirement. And while I’m not quite there yet, I’m not that far away either. Now I won’t be able to live lavishly or anything. We’ll have to budget ourselves for sure. But I don’t want to spend the last phase of my life doing the 9 to 5 thing. We decided long ago that what we want to do is spend our days just the two of us seeing all we can see if this great country of ours. And that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.
