Sept/Oct in DC is crazy awesome.
not as many tourists, kids are all back in school, weather is nice, football, etc

December can go either way really. It's gotten pretty cold(well by our standards) before and then there have been times it was warm on Christmas day.

Yeah it would have been nice. Just not in the budget for us since we are saving up for a house. We are driving up to the coast of northern cali instead with our dogs to explore the coast (driving up part of the Pacific Coast Highway), go hiking in the redwood forests and visit some dog friendly wineries and breweries there.
