My great-great uncle died in WWI. I just got a copy of his death file with an eyewitness account from his 1st Sgt:

quote:
I saw Pvt XXXXXX immediately after he was wounded Aug 7, 1918 and helped dress his wounds before he was sent to the first aid station. He was badly wounded in both legs by shell fire and lost considerable blood while his wounds were being bandaged. He evidently didn't suffer any great pain for he never complained. He remarked to one man who was also shot in the legs and was making a lot of noise to "keep quiet. I am shot worse than you are but I'm not making any noise". He was then carried to the first aid station at Villette, France, where he died.

Looks like he was pretty tough. Pretty cool to see historical stuff about your family.

I enjoy looking into this stuff. I stumbled across this guy while looking into my mother's side of the family. He would have been my grandfather's uncle but he died before my grandfather was even born. Apparently nobody ever talked about him because nobody in my family that's still living has heard of him.
He died in France in 1918 and was later brought back to the U.S. in 1921. He's buried at Arlington now.

Too bad his great great nephew is a pillow biter. Just goes to show, you can't pick your family.

See, DPH. I come from a long line of people that like to tell other people to STFU.

Yeah I stumbled across that I am related to one of the first reps of the state of SC. One of my direct grandfathers.
Ancestry is a cool arse website and you can do a free trial that works amazing. You pretty much just match at tie into other's trees who gave already done a portion of the dirty work and verifying.

I usually don't feel sorry for their kind, considering they are some evil creatures at times, but in this instance I feel sorry for said womenz

I'm on Ancestry... find-a-grave is a good resource too.
Luckily I had a folder full of info that my great-aunt started years ago. She gave it all to me before she died. I was able to use that to verify everything.
