I am talking about getting a tough residency spot outside of Shreveport.
My brother is currently doing his at __________ and his classmates are all around the country at various different prestigious programs. Do well on your boards and I'm pretty sure they won't care if you went to N.O. or Shreveport.

You are correct about the board scores. That does trump almost anything.

They are both good and can get you what you need, but this is med school. You are the biggest factor in your quality of education.

steps I and II will have a huge impact on where you go and what you get into.
with enough work and dedication you can get into the hard to get residencies though. I know a guy who failed step I the first time and never got above a 200 on either one. He is now a neurosurgeon. This was in Shreveport too.

My sister went to LSU-S. She finished high in her class and had her choice of destinations for her residency. She went to a highly respected, longstanding trauma program... and has just gotten her 2nd 6-figure bonus in 3 years now that she's a full time surgeon.
There are far less distractions in Shreveport. She had an outstanding rapport with her instructors.
ETA:
She did her residency at Louisville.

Do you mind me asking what years?
She LOVED it there.
She's doing great where she's at now. The head of surgery is a female... so she's not concerned about "sexual politics" n whatnot. She signed with a hospital... and now 3 years later they are building a brand new trauma center and just paid her bank to stick around and grow with them.

I was accepted to both as well when I graduated from LSU undergrad (pre-Katrina)...but if I had to choose one, I would certainly choose Nola over Shreveport. You will see more pathology and have better resources in Nola...and there is more to do in the city. Dont let these guys lead you to believe that you have no life while in med school...well, in years 1, 2 and 4 you do. During 3rd year you have a few months where you arent in the hospital 100+ hours a week.
I chose to go back home to Texas for medical school instead of staying in Louisiana. Attendance in class was not mandatory at the school I attended...gross anatomy was the exception...so I took a lot of time off each module and played golf and enjoyed my life. But I had to buckle down and study about 3wks before each module exam though. I graduated in top 25% in med school and #1 in my residency. But, I was 30 when I started med school.

I have been advised several times on this board that there is not enough money in medicine to go to medical school.
That basically it is a losing proposition because you have to work so much. That you could basically work at Circle K for so many hours and come out ahead.
So, why do you want to go to medical school?

I loved my time at LSU-NO and never even considered Shreveport. I had plenty of time for fun, you just have to learn to balance things. I would have been miserable in Shreveport, personally, so I didn't even apply.
If you're going to do well in med school, you will likely do well no matter where you're at. We had a great class with a good portion of our class going to some great places like Vanderbilt, Harvard, Mayo and Duke. The school only influences your outcome so much - it's really what you put into it. As far as board scores go, it's pretty much all on you.

Kadahoola,
I went to Shreveport, reluctantly, and liked it. I interviewed up there just because, even moved to New Orleans thinking I was going there.
I grew up near New Orleans, so for me, heading to Shreveport lead to less distractions. Not because of the night life, but because I knew friends would call to go out. I lived in South Highlands, which was really, really nice. In fact, I wish I could have taken my house and neighborhood with me to residency.
The systems-based approach I didn't particularly care for. But, how you do is totally dependent on you and not the teaching (just like residency). Like others have said, how you do on the steps and place in the class are more important than which school you go to.
I will say, Shreveport had block testing the 1st year, so you could party hard for 2 weeks, then buckle down for 2 weeks of studying before the tests. Year 2 starts with a test every Monday, and many blocks after that are every other week. 3rd year you will have no life, and 4th year is a blast.
As to the pathology of NO vs. Shreveport, you will have an active gun and knife club, as well as many blunt injuries, so trauma will be the same, although maybe a little less in Shreveport. As I've only done Ortho rotations in New Orleans, I can't tell you how the medical environment compares, though.
