LSU Lab School -- worth it?

My family is looking to relocate from Livingston Parish before the next school year starts. My daughter (6) has an interview at LSU Lab School this week. I'm sure it's wishful thinking, but what's the school like? How does it compare to the public schools in Mandeville?

It's a good school. Somewhat difficult to get in to though.

It is not very expensive, so assuming she gets in, it is well worth it. By far the best bang for your buck youre going to get in BR. The governors kids and LSU coaches kids usually always go there (over $25k/yr Episcopal) if that tells you anything.

It's gotten that high? Good lord. That's ridiculous.

Lab school is definitely best bang for your buck.

It's not 25k but something like 18. We live within walking distance of Episcopal but send my kid somewhere else. My little sister has 3 kids there. Too high for me though.

Does that mean that we'll feel out of place if we're not local celebs or very wealthy?

Episcopal was $16k just a few years ago. Can’t believe it would have gone up that much.

UHS is by far the best bang for the buck if you can get the kid in.

Because technically it's considered a public school, you can compare their performance to other public schools on the Dept of Ed site.

Here's the one for the Lab school: LINK

I thought I read it was at 20k not long ago. Either way, I am not in that 1%

We pay about 12k for one kid now. U High is a better deal but it's all the way across town from where we live

Episcopal BR Tuition and Fees 2019-2020

Looks like high school is at $20,574, so my number may have been exaggerating slightly

ETA: Grade school is $15,432

It's the second best "public school" in Baton Rouge, and the best one that's not a magnet school.

And just because it keeps getting mentioned... The lab school is good, but it isn't on Episcopal's level academically. Hence best bang for your buck.

U-High grad of '99 checking in.

Loved it. Without social media, I can tell you what the majority of my class is doing today.

Children of a lower station (academic and social) than kids from the upper tier Catholic High and Episcopal families go there, yet it’s more difficult to get in. Kind of a weird deal

Well yeah I am sure this is true. The student/teacher ratio at EHS is like 15:1 from what I understand. When I went to UHS is was around 30:1

It's way cheaper than most private schools. I wouldn't have any issues sending my kid there. It's a good option if you can get in.

In BR you either go private, magnet or move to the burbs.
