Due to the post-Katrina Go Zone. Then it became culturally endemic with the student population.
I’m not disagreeing but you could just come out and say NOLA infiltrated BR and fricked it up.

You think that the problem would be better if LSU's student population went back to 25k? I think it would be unimaginatively worse.
Not if they were not propped up by Government programs and allowed to fail. Bulldoze that shite when they can’t pay the bills from rent with legit tenants.

Look at all those that agree. I hope ya'll don't actually consider yourself conservative.
Stop-and-frisk stops are perfectly legal and constitutional.

I didn't take a census during 05-08 but it seemed to be mostly locals. The nola influx was gone by 2008 and by that time TL was full on ghetto. Couldn't walk home from TL to Brightside anymore at that point

Again, none of this is LSU's fault.
This issue is a BR and developer problem that should have been addressed 15 years ago. It's going to basically be impossible to address it now, until the thugs get bored and go elsewhere on Saturdays

What are you basing your reasonable suspicion on, exactly?
And Terry stops should be illegal, but I digress.

I’m not arguing locals were not a part of the problem but the NOLA influx accelerated the problem. Section 8 government money destroyed the area around campus and places like Siegen.

That was the backbone of my initlal comments ITT

The larger issue is, if that thread from yesterday is correct, what happens with all the OTHER apartment complexes that overbuilt all around LSU?
The biggest issue seems to be with developers creating pockets of ghetto all around LSU with the "old" apartment complexes.

Smell of weed or alcohol on persons who appear to be under 21 years old is more than sufficient PC to do a few stop-and-frisks of the yutes.

They played a part in lowering standards and driving up demand for off campus housing. Did the market over correct yes. If they can’t survive then don’t allow section 8 allowances that close to campus. It’s not illegal to say no this is too close to campus and is not eligible for section 8 status.

Again, as has been shown, the developers still overbuilt. This isn't a point.
This isn't an LSU-centric problem. They're doing this everywhere.

This we can agree on. Greed for that free money is not just a LSU problem. What is the fix and I will not accept the issue is not workable if you don’t mind hurting some feelings.

“The Venue is not section 8 and is probably the safest complex close to campus. We set my daughter up there after she was forced off campus after her Freshman year. Lord knows we paid for that safety.”
The section 8 comment is off base and a generalization of the complexes on the extended bus route.. in northgate area .. Do not rent past the Burger King.. area is fine and safer than some of the major complexes on Burbank … crime is being enticed in on game day to the area with “events”.. either on site or via social network….
There is a catalyst…. Find it or chase it off.. rumor is social networking is encouring some of these events.. these are not in general students

Which, again, shows it has nothing to do with admissions standards.

How can you do that? Legally at least?

BR isn’t in the position to stifle development that is giving them good property tax revenue
Every new cottages or whatever student complex just lead to the further downfall of places like Sharlo which was on its last legs when I was at LSU in 08.
The biggest problem with those developments of that era, is they are pretty shitty and don’t hold to the modern mildly alcoholic student lifestyle. So they build another then the older ones go ghetto

My daughter’s first roommate on campus was a thug from NYC that never went to class. Slept all day and partied all night. You know constantly talking in her phone on speaker for no reason. Made my daughter miserable. Was in nothing but remedial courses and should have never been there.

How?
You allow everyone to tailgate up and down Highland and around U-High again. Let the frats use their houses and it will take care of itself.

It's the OTHER stuff going ghetto that's causing issues.
Like what?

What does that have to do with non-student thugs going on campus on game day?
Why did LSU take a holistic approach to admissions recently?

Just post some law enforcement … dogs of various smelling capabilities..keep people from blocking the street.
A few cruiser etc.. this area use to be the preferred alumni and visitor eating, drinking, souvenirs shopping area.. you have a Baton Rouge police substation about five blocks down the street on highland !
What is happening now at this level is new..
Not sure what is going on down the street on other side of campus and highland/ stadium..
But try the same approach .. again that area use to be a police checkpoint..
