Post a link to the new law. Previously only the front windows and windshield were regulated on SUVs and trucks.

Not sure I believe that. If I put a camper in the back of my truck, my visibility is zero. Why should tint be different
Posted on 8/2/15 at 12:17 pm to Hammertime
The podunk towns wanna write tickets for this crap or I would just get the tint.

Just get it done and don't worry about it. If you need it, you need it. Get the tint and try and get the paperwork sorted out afterwards

The hardest part is the inspection sticker. I've had tint on all my vehicles, and even if I get pulled over they don't usually fuss unless it's waaaayyy too dark.
Find a place to pass it and don't act like a tard on the road.

My grandson has congenital glaucoma, has had multiple surgeries, including a corneal transplant - he is extremely light sensitive. His ophthalmologist wrote a letter indicating that his parents needed to be able to tint the car windows so he could be comfortable. When my ex son in law took the letter to LSP they denied approval. Admittedly, it may be because ex SIL is an arse.

Thats about right Nynna11.
I am seeing the bullshite part of this law the more I read. Our politicians can get exemptions but everyday people who can actually use this for either health or true security reasons are denied.

He seemed to indicate there was a new rule in effect because that statute still contains the provision exempting trucks.
(4) The light transmittance requirement of this Section does not apply to windows behind the driver on trucks, busses, trailers, motor homes, multipurpose passenger vehicles, and all windows on vehicles used for law enforcement purposes and tinted in accordance with the provisions of this Section.

I got it, had my doctor sign the form. Went and got finger prints
Fairly easy if you don't have a record
I'm in the process of doing it now and was amazed at the fingerprints requirement along with the assorted fees. So how much did it cost you in total?
I need it because i am photosensitive (sensitive to bright/flashing light) particularly when we are driving by a bunch of trees and and the sun is behind trees so it constantly flashing/flickering from bright blazing sun to shade. Sounds ridiculous right?
I'm not a wuss and I try not to complain about stuff but this really affects me like an electrical shock thru my brain repeatedly. Seriously, it is that bad. I have had seizures/passing out before so it concerns me a lot and it is actually painful. Because of this, I do not like to drive (because of safety to others) and rarely do but even as a passenger, it affects me.
I recently looked up the process and was amazed that it took so much to do. The fingerprinting and "rap sheet" part was particularly surprising. ( I have never been arrested and haven't got a ticket in decades). I have nothing to hide, it is just a lot of stuff to do to prove I am not a criminal just so get a medical waiver.
For those who have not read it, this is what the state wants to give you an exemption. The procedure from the LSP Website.
1) A properly completed FBI Applicant Fingerprint Card - Card can be obtained from any local law enforcement agency. A fee may be charged by the local department. (cost about $25)
2) A completed Authorization Form - Print and check the"TESS Window Tint" box.
3) A completed Rap Disclosure Form (cost about $25)
4)A completed Window Tint Exemption Form - Applicant and physician must complete all designated sections of the application in their entirety and it must be notarized. Only color ORIGINAL documents will be accepted. No copies and/or fax copies will be accepted.
5)A cashier check or money order paid to the order of the Department of Public Safety or Louisiana State Police in the amount of $45.25 must be attached to the above documents for processing.
So it is basically about $100 just to apply and you may be denied even after spending all that.

I've learned to roll my front windows down when getting an inspection sticker. I've also found / use stations that don't check anything.

Strip okay above AS-1 line (IIRC, top 1/4 of windshield
40% front
25% rear
12% back
40% front
25% rear
12% back

is 40% even worth it on the front? Doesn't seem like that is much different than a normal window

I had the exemption in the late 90s. I had the local dermatologist complete the form for me. Not sure what is required now.

I applied previously and was denied and then appealed. Ended up speaking with the Captain over that Division and house counsel for LSP. The Capt unabashedly admitted two things:
1. LSP/DPS really doesn't want to be involved in regulating this law and wishes it wasn't on the books as written.
2. He is making it his mission to deny every request regardless of how justified.
When he made statement 2 the lawyer and I just looked at each other and I said: "So you are openly stating that you are refusing to approve legitimate requests? In other words, you aren't doing your Legally mandated job?" It was quiet for a while and then they ended the meeting. I was later notified my appeal was denied.
FYI. I applied because I was carrying sensitive items in my vehicle for a government contract we were working on and I was worried about theft. The Capt wrote that dark windows make people break into cars because they "want to see what is inside." Stupidest fricking thing I have ever heard.
Also, on top of cops being exempt, every elected official is exempt. So the state lawmakers wrote and passed a bill that exempts themselves. Kind of like Congress and Obamacare.
Are you talking about Captain David Templeton? I had a very similar conversation with those asshats at LSP. The whole building is occupied by a bunch of miserable men with shitty haircuts.
The weird thing is I had a security exemption for a while and all of sudden when I changed vehicles they decided to deny my application. I got a ticket with the exemption anyway so it would have been cheaper to just strip and retint my car every time I needed an inspection sticker.
I have a hard time giving even the smallest of fricks about anything that comes out of the MVI division.
