Had a court hearing up there back in January. They had metal detectors but no one working the doors so you pretty much were on the honor system ??.

I’m surprised Gretna is so low. Almost no crime, 1 minute response time. If you commit a crime there’s a chance you’ll be caught in the act or shortly thereafter They dust for prints, investigate and have K-9s and use them. Roll through a stop sign ? You might get 2 units, 4 cops. And 10 minutes from Lucy’s surf bar. Safe Good city

Gretna is a small town in a large parish. It is bordered by two high-crime areas.. Harvey and Algiers. The racial and economic demographics are similar to those other two places, but somehow crime is low.

What helps Gretna is attitude. It aggressively patrols and the parish DA gladly prosecutes (unlike NOLA). Its citizens are overwhelmingly pro-police and don't want to become another New Orleans. Gretna does home incarceration for the entire parish and court security for the 24th JDC courthouse. That means there are a ton of badges for a town that size. I have heard that they have about 200 commissioned including reserves (200 badges for a population of 17k and about 9 sq miles). In contrast, similarly size and pop Breaux Bridge has about 25 commissioned. Gretna, being surrounded by hell-holes, has a lot of paid details. This means that if something pops, patrol can be supplemented with detail officers and they can get 30 or 40 uniforms on scene anywhere in town in about 10 minutes (that's not counting JPSO who would respond if needed). As someone said, the typical response time for 1 or 2 officers is about a minute for 'hot' calls. Their response time for minor calls like loud music nuisance complaints is under 5 minutes. JPSO is taking about 10-15 minutes to respond to burglar alarms on the Westbank. NOPD fuggedaboutit, response times for fender benders, thefts, and break ins are better measured with a calendar, not a clock. I don't know if it is still this bad in the NOPD 7th, but a few years ago they had as few as 3 patrol units for the entire East. That's geographically as big as Metairie with hella more violent crime. If you live out there, you are pretty much on your own. Notice how in Algiers you may see a convenience store with 20 or so people drinking alcohol and loitering. You will not see that in Gretna, period. They will at a minimum summons for public consumption, but oftentimes do haul people off to jail. So, that's how there is a safe city (safe for everyone...black, white, hispanic) surrounded by dangerous ones.

Oh no doubt, but knowing CenLa the little old mawmaw's in the clerical offices are packing serious heat so a would be bad guy wouldn't get far.

Carencro and New Iberia are a lot rougher than Moss Bluff and West Monroe.

Not sure I would consider New Iberia a suburb of Lafayette.
