I completely understand the hunters POV on this situation. But why does it matter for fishermen?
If it's not hunting season, why it a big deal for someone to be fishing the same duck pond?
I've never been told to leave an area while fishing FWIW

I have no problem whatsoever with people fishing my lease as long as it's not hunting season and they aren't tearing shite up.

What about the vast majority?

I think they should lease out fishing permits and donate that money to coastal conservation. Maybe keep their land from eroding some. Thoughts on that as a plan?

Most of the inland erosion in the marsh is caused by pipeline canals, I think that the owners of said canals should be held accountable and made to pay for restoration.

I think if landowners were allowed to grant fishing permits it would be too widely abused. The majority of people wouldn't put any money into restoration/conservation and it would turn into a racket. Also, I don't think we, as a public, really understand how to do it on a small scale; education would have to be a big part of something like that.

we do keep up the marsh with our own money, every few years we have to get marsh buggies out there to dig out the ponds and some of the canals.

this pic may be kinda small.

Lets say I lease everything inside the red box....the 3 ponds are my duck ponds....you think it's ok for just anyone to be able to set up and bow fish, hunt ducks etc?

What about where my camp is? Is it ok for just anyone to come put their camp right next to mine?

How can so many people be so wrong about this?

The courts have ruled on this. It's settled.

one day all the marsh land will be gone anyway.

And then I will be laughing at all the "landowners" whining for the state to build their land back up with tax money. Meanwhile, they will have a bunch of posted signs sitting out in the Gulf of Mexico.

and there's a petition to attempt to unsettle it. Just because there is a rule right now does not mean change can't happen.

If that happens you won't be laughing if you live in South Louisiana, as your home is next due to the lack of marshland to stop storm surge, etc.

I'm going to use your logic and skip everything you said, ignore it, and answer one question:

No, because the land is yours.

it's not a big deal to me if it's not hunting season.

I'm actually torn on this because I lease private land AND im a fisherman..and would like to be able to access more spots to fish, but I understand both sides of the argument.

Why should land in the marsh be looked at any differently from dry land? It's not like these landowners are blocking right-of-ways and impeding boat traffic.

Your example is not intellectually honest with the debate. I mean, note the title of this thread.

When I'm fishing 30' from the edge of the marsh in 2-4 feet of water, in a pipeline canal, or lagoon or bay or bayou or whatever, I shouldn't be in violation of criminal trespass laws. But I am now, in about 90% of the surface area south of I-10. That isn't right.

That is vastly different than having to use a pirogue and push pole my way up through 6" of water and mud to get 1/4 mile back into a pond in the marsh.

What if they dont tie up to the land? Is it ok to just spud down in the middle of the canal?

Im talking about a floating camp, not a camp built on the bank

Have you honestly ever had a problem? Have you ever been fishing in a big canal or bay and been told that you were trespassing?
