School Board Association and teacher unions. These organizations are constantly supporting bills and policies that protect incompetent teachers and attempt to weaken accountability.

Take that out of the equation and overall we're at the median. No doubt.

The worst thing about Louisiana schools is that your kids will have to go to school with their kids.
Nope. Private schools.

He was brought in to set up Common Core. Once the backlash began, he had no clue. So the entire state is rudderless, for the foreseeable future
Could not be more wrong. The state is full steam ahead on Common Core. Sure, they made a few minor whitewashes here and there, but make no mistake, we are all in on common core.

how the system is geared to help the shitty students and not help the elite students
Is this really a big issue in La? In Ga we have magnet schools that all fight for the top tier students. They place them in a little bubble away from the general population and they take 8-12 AP courses during high school. We also identify the elite students early in elementary school and put them in gifted to make sure they're challenged.
Here it's mostly the average to above average kids that get left behind and put in with lower performing kids.

Big cities here are the same. I'm trying to move into ebr specifically for the magnet potential. If they're that gifted they'll be scooped up within a year or two.

That I have to pay for my kids to get a decent education and be safe.
