So what happens to this money now?
Great question.
Our public officials get these large grants, everyone takes a bow when it’s announced, but we wait and wait to see the benefits.
I know right after the 2016 floods the Feds granted EBR millions of dollars to address our drainage issues. Time passed. We flooded again. Mayor Broome said we needed to pass a huge tax to fix the problem. They planned it in secret saying the Feds said it was too secret.
Well she was exposed. It was also exposed that she was sitting on millions already and was finally forced to spend it cleaning up our water ways.

Decision probably saved 100s of lives.

Someone explain to me why we need a passenger train to go from Baton Rouge to New Orleans when people are actually moving away from both cities?
I can see high speed ferries from the Northshore to NOLA before a passenger train from BTR to NOLA

Why not just use the $500,000 to buy a few greyhound buses and run them back and forth?
They used to do that. I’m not sure why they stopped

On rails?
Why are we spending millions on a train route when we could use that towards I-10 improvements PLUS buses for the poors?

Not a bad idea, but you are about 600,000 to 700,000 short of buying a single greyhound style bus.

8.2 billion would pay for a lot of uber rides from BR to NO.

Eff that idea.

Tell that to the people that have to travel the causeway everyday and the people that were involved in that 180 car pile up a few weeks ago
Ferries have radars, they can travel in the fog, rain, snow, sleet, ice, etc

We'd agree that defense spending is important, right? We need to ensure national security, keep rogue nations at bay, etc.
How much do you think a full-scale war against Russia would cost us per year? $200B? $500B?
In almost 2 years, we've spent $44B total to significantly harm an arch adversary on the global stage. Russia has lost over a hundred thousand soldiers, lost morale, are spending out the arse to fight in Ukraine, and are seriously diminishing their military assets.
And it's only cost us less than 5% of our defense budget to do it. There's a reason proxy wars are popular amongst politicians.
What a good little lemming you are

On its face, it does seem like a somewhat logical idea.
The long-term consequences would not be good for the NS.
Beyond that, picking a spot for the automobiles on both sides, and the inherent lack of public transportation once you're parked on the south shore, means that it will likely never happen.
Plus, the WFA toothpaste isn't going back in the tube anytime soon.
It would be huge waste of money.
A far simpler, cheaper, better option is a 3rd span utilizing contra-flow for peak times.
That won't happen either, but it should.

Of all the infrastructure issues we have, why are we so bent about the fricking rail between NO and BR? It’s barely an hour drive.

I think you ignore reality
It's not working any where without massive subsidies.
It is a boondoggle that only the profiteers of the spending support.

Westend/Bucktown on the Southshore has plenty of space for parking and a landing spot.....
so does Sunset Point/Port Marigny on the Northshore

Follow the money.
Who in BR is going to benefit? Someone is. Who?

The free bus service stopped because of the lack of riders.

Don’t worry.
I am sure Clay Higgins is on this.
Nobody reliably delivers gubmint money and deeply meaningful legislation for this state than Higgins.
His productivity is the envy of the entire Congress.

There should be a Gulf Coast high speed train from Houston to Panama City. Hit all the spots in between.
