It's nice to see a local company acquiring their competitors rather than getting acquired. I have a feeling Sunbelt or some other huge company will eventually buy H&E though, which would suck for Louisiana.

Baton Rouge’s H&E Equipment Services Inc. today announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Lewistown Rental, a Montana-based equipment rental business, and three of its affiliated rental operations.

The affiliates are located in Havre, Glasgow and Great Falls, Montana, and each location serves multiple end markets, including non-residential, industrial and agriculture.

Lewistown Rental boasts a total estimated fleet value, as measured by original equipment cost, of $28.5 million. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2024, following the satisfaction of customary closing conditions. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Any of you baws in the equipment rental business?

I’m curious about the profit obtained on a rental during the machine’s life cycle. It has to be pretty healthy, there are at least 10 rental companies just in NELA.

In even moderately hot areas (a steady flow of new construction/expansion projects), equipment rental can be extremely lucrative. I imagine most of H&E's offices between Baton Rouge and Houston do particularly well.

A lot of construction companies have moved away from owning equipment these days, with the exception of specialty equipment. I know we have. Way too much headache maintaining and operating a fleet.

That is who my Dad was working for when the shooting occurred. He didn't even lose his job and he drove the company car to the airport!

Damn. That's a stand up move on H&E's part.

I will still throw shade at Engquist for being against St. George and supporting Broom while having his corporate HQ far, far away from Baton Rouge's downtown. But this makes it harder to hate him personally.

Well when your company forgets it has equipment on rent for 6-8 months at a time it can become pretty lucrative.

I've seen a construction company accidentally frame in and drywall a scissor lift into a small mechanical space that was inaccessible after construction.

It's probably still there in between those walls. They'll find it when they eventually tear the building down decades from now. I guess the rental company filed an insurance claim on it.

They are anti St. George, maybe we should vote against them expanding.

Yep. But in the flip side, the rental company better have a damn good handle on their operations and tracking what's out on rent, etc.

I used to deal with United Rentals a lot and they were generally just too big for their own good and were almost like dealing with a government entity at times.
