Officials say 2017 was Louisiana’s sixth record year in a row for tourism, with 47.1 million visitors spending $17.5 billion. According to a news release from the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, the number of visitors last year rose nearly 500,000 from 2016, and their spending rose more than 4 percent. State and local tax revenues rose 4.5 percent, from $1.73 million to $1.81 million.
Looks like the statues coming down didn't impact tourism much.
I'm pretty ambivalent to both sides of the statue argument.

You think people with Confederate flags on their houses can afford to travel?

It was Monroe’s new river market.

How do states even track this. I spent some money in LA last year but how would anyone know I was from out of town?

Not sure but every state does it. Just a guess they can see the zip code from a credit/debit card purchase.

They can probably track total revenue, total revenue from state residents, and then the difference between those would be tourism.
I still don't know how that would be exact though.

I guess. Didn't think about that. But I only use my credit card to book hotels when we travel. Most of the other stuff I take cash when traveling.
