He had batted cancer for over ten years. Dad had been in home Hospice for over two years. I knew it was coming but it doesn't make it any easier . I did a thread on here on him serving in the Army ( Korea) which he was proud of. Dad never met a stranger and generally cared for everyone. He was a huge LSU fan and passed away on the same day as his favorite player Billy Cannon. I spent as much time as I could with him over the past ten years. Staying overnights at different hospitals and visting him almost daily. I'm 52 and even knowing that the end was near doesn't make it easier laying your hero to rest. If I had one piece of advice it would be to visit your parents and loved ones often and do whatever you can to make their life easier

Sorry to read about your loss. Lost mine a while back. It still hurts but sharing stories about my old man with my kids makes it better.

And thanks for your dad’s service.

Sorry for your loss bro. We’re close to the same age, and my folks are getting up in age too. Solid advise. I hope the pain of losing your dad is eased.

Thank you all for the kind words. He was always worried about how you was doing even when he was suffering. His doctor was in high s 40's and my dad in his 80's and they had gotten close This doctor came in and seen my dad at the hospital on his day off to make sure that my dads transition would be comfortable. He told us about how much he admired dad and we told him how grateful we were to him. When we left out of the room , we seen this doctor sitting at the nurses station weeping. Two nurses came to me and my sister and said your dad must have been a great man because they had never seen a doctor get that upset over a patent... I've cried so much and these next two days are going to be hard. Thankfully my parents had already set their funerals up so to make it easier. My siblings and I still had to pick out pictures and songs. I told my wife that after this we are going to set up our funerals to make it easier for our children

My prayers for your father go out to you. Remember your dad and think of all the things he was...you know him. I would imagine 2 years of hospice was a nightmare for him, and he sounds better of now being with God. Find solace in the fact that you had a great friend all of these years who loved you to no end. My father died when I was 4. I never knew him, or at least dont remember him.
Dont stay with this pain. Let it turn to smiles and a lifelong set of memories that you now posses.

God speed
