Little twist at the end does not seem right

That last little correction looked sketchy but also kind of feels like SpaceX testing the limits and letting physics argue later ??

What? They did that on purpose. It literally went exactly as they planned. That's why the Space X team cheered so hard when it happened

quote:

The explosive demise of the Starship upper stage after landing was intentional. During its uncrewed test flights, SpaceX designed the spacecraft to execute a controlled "soft" splashdown in the ocean. Once the ship hit the water intact, performed a landing burn, and tipped over, the vehicle was destroyed on purpose to dispose of leftover propellant and the rocket itself, as it was not intended for recovery

I think they only used two engines on this landing. They were testing this as they will normally use three from what I read somewhere.
The work they did on the heat shield over the last few years showed, it did not look like it had just passed through a re-entry. The previous versions looked like toast.

The booster definitely had some issues relighting the new type engines.

The tip over was planned, we know that. It was the twist at the end that seemed irregular. That may have been done intentionally so it would fall over tile side up for inspection from drone. Possibly it could be the intended maneuver as well. If it landed like booster, the tile side would be up against the tower. Maybe they want it to rotate to land tile side out. Tile side is how it is lifted and launched.

Did not look as in control as booster landings have been, but it is coming in much hotter

It's almost like they were landing in a moving fricking ocean with waves and not on the ground.

There's 6 engines on it I think, and one of the big ones on the outside shut down early on into the flight.

I'm no rocket scientist but I'm pretty sure the water moving under the rocket has nothing to do with its flight characteristics.

Landing in the ocean has zero relevance to the discussion. The movement in question was above the water.

Watching it more, I do think they are going to try and rotate ship to land tile side out. That is not a maneuver they have tried in previous landings. It does pitch over too much after that and travels a little, but that could technically be after the catch would have happened. Catch should be just after rotation, by a second.

For the less astute among us, that video is clearly a cartoon and not real. Rockets cannot land by themselves, instead they simply rewinded the video when in fact, the rocket was taking off (not landing).

We will see if July launch goes, booster has to be investigated.
