re: Looking for scientific data that says masks stop the spread of the Wuhan virus

And one can be pro-mask and anti-shutdown, because I am. But frick me for being responsible, right?
Posted on 9/12/20 at 6:49 pm to BottomlandBrew
Wearing a mask makes you feel responsible? OK fine.
I’m not wearing one outside of a hospital anymore.

Thank you for posting actual actual studies. That’s more than anyone else has been able to do. I look forward to reading all of them when I have more time.
Question before reading them: If the virus is indeed spread through aerosols, that makes the cloth masks that the majority of people are using useless, right?
Posted on 9/12/20 at 7:04 pm to GusMcRae
Yeah, it does. Data overwhelmingly shows masks are effective at reducing transmission.
What is your logic of only wearing them in hospitals? If they work in hospitals, do they stop working at the door?

Oh good grief.
Count the qualifiers in these papers.
They’re saying, “we have an opinion”
This one is especially risible.
Only a small part of the population is vulnerable to COVID. This are older individuals with serious health conditions.
New York City was one of the very first areas to experience a serious outbreak, and in cities, especially tightly quartered ones like New York, infectious agents spread very quickly.
This was compounded by the governors decision to send nursing home patients back to their facilities.
By the time New York implemented their mandate, the most vulnerable had already been exposed.
There were simply fewer and fewer people left to kill.
The authors are making a claim there in no position to substantiate.
They need to compare the death toll in areas that had a mandate. And didn’t have a mandate.

They conclude that “there is a substantial probability that normal speaking causes airborne virus transmission in confined environments”.

Over time, the scientific community will eventually form an impression of the predominant transmission route for that specific agent

Hence, the decreasing rate in the daily new infections in NYC with mandated face covering is in sharp contrast to that in the United States with only social-distancing and stay-at-home measures, further confirming the importance of face covering in intervening the virus transmission.

We are using the "common sense" that one side loves so much.

From what my medical director (an infectious disease specialist) still maintains as her stance:
Certain situations may temporarily aerosolize the virus making it "airborne"(ex: intubation, giving SVN treatments, certain dental treatments, etc) . But then it drops down to the ground.

why be pro mask for a virus that won't kill you?
never before have we had this stupid arse debate for any other virus. never have we tested healthy people for anything else. good news is ignored. bad news is incentivized and inflated. "cases" are inflated with tax money.
CFR vs IFR is ignored.
proper treatment of respiratory disease that we've known how to deal with for 100 years is ignored and politicized. instead, we use computer modeling that said 2+ million dead, super spreaders!, 2 weeks incubation period!
all wrong at best, outrght lies at worst.
but trump is in the white house and it's an election year.
you wanna be pro mask, wear one. afraid? stay home. buy ppe and look like an idiot in public. wipe your groceries down forever.
but don't use the power of the state to frick up everyone else's life.

Because it can kill my parents and this isn't like the flu where they can get a vaccine every year to substantially decrease their odds of dying.
And I guess you missed my part about me being anti-shut down. I'm pro-personal responsibility, but since most people seems to lack that, we're left with a nanny state that thinks they know better.
I've taken a look at the scientific data. I've seen it's not as bad for most people as the people in charge say it is, but it can be that bad for some people. I've also seen that masks decrease the spread. As such, I have decided to wear a mask to do my part to not transmit the virus to someone less healthy than myself.

Here’s the test I performed. Fill free to duplicate.
I wiped my arse with my mask and put it on. People didn’t come around me, and I didn’t catch the Asian flu. Doctors will tell you it was the mask, I’d argue it was my shite.
My conclusion was masks are worth a shite.

yep. and if we'd used steroid nebulizers and a medication that acts as an ionophore for zinc, many of the ppl that DID die wouldn't have, at least not of covid
but nah let's put sick ppl back in nursing homes then wait till they're all almost dying, THEN put em on a max pressure ventilator.
but wear a mask. the murderous policymakers say so.

its a lot like the flu especially in the ineffective bullshite vaccine department.
properly treated, there are lots of old covid survivors that had multiple comorbidities.
I'm amazed ppl are just so shut off to known successful treatment and immediately run to their comfort blankie face covering.
I dont want this thing just like I don't want flu or anything else, especially since the return to work rules on it are so retarded. but I also know that my flimsy, used more than once, stupid arse mask isn't gonna keep me from getting it.

I mean ok, I’m going to ready them. I was giving you a chance to frame the argument and support yourself.
But based on on what’s been said and quoted on this thread from your links, they don’t do what you’re claiming the do.
