I know my issues pail in comparison and I most definitely was blessed. My house is raised and water was about a inch over my last step before you reach my porch. It is still another maybe 4 inches to step into my home. I do not think water got inside as near as I can tell upon my brief quick inspection. But I do have insulation hanging down I can see. Not sure if water reached and cause it to sag or it all is from water reaching my subfloor could have gotten wet ( I don't think so ) but I won't know until water goes down and I can get under the house and see it. I cannot see any missing shingles but I am 100% certain that I had lift. How could I not, my house was in the eastern eye wall for several hours. My central air outside is toast. It was submerged halfway for at least 48 hours. My shed did take water. Zero turn, generator, chain saw etc, all sat in flood water for 48 or more hours. Motor of the mower didn't go under but this model hustler have a drive system that has oil that has to be changed so I think they will total it as well. So this where I am at. Just looking tips and advice from anyone that has been through this before dealing all of these ppl. Again like I did onthe help board. Thank you to Chicken and whoever else let me out of prison. I promise to be a good boy from now. I was reading the northshore thread of the ppl who stayed and saw many many good baw who rode it out in Ponchatoula/Bedico. If any of you need help I will do what I can just email me ponchytiger@yahoo.com

thanks

Sounds like your biggest issue right now will be flood related, so go ahead and file a claim with NFIP. That way an adjuster can come out when it’s safe and get the process expedited for you.

File a claim on your flood insurance.
Generally, in your situation, there is limited coverage.
However, if you are denied or there is stuff not covered, FEMA can step in, but they will want to see that you filed a claim.
If FEMA refuses assistance for various reasons, there will be SBA loans offered.

Get a roofer out to offer an estimate. If there is damage, you can file a homeowners claim.

Register with FEMA asap; there will be a deadline and you need to register before that date.

I got involved with disaster recovery in NC after H Matthew in ‘16 & then Florence in ‘18.
Based on my memory:
FEMA expects you to use other resources before they will help.
If you have insurance, you file on that.
You will have to apply for a low interest loan w/ SBA; to pay for your damages.
If you do not qualify for the loan and have unmet needs FEMA may pay up to ~ $35k max.
There are some expenses that FEMA will pay that do not count against the $35k; I think temporary shelter is one. FEMA may pay for you to stay in a motel; i.e., temporary shelter.

If you do not get help from any of those sources, or get some help but still have unmet needs, there may be a Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) in your location that non-profit organizations, and others, staff. You may be able to get financial assistance through them to help with disaster related expenses. FEMA typically works closely w/ the LTRG.

Very shortly I would expect national organizations that work disasters to set up in LA to begin to help; Team Rubicon, Baptist on Mission, Lutheran Disaster Services, Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul Disaster Services, & the Methodist for example. The LTRG should be able to tell you which ones are working in your location.

Good luck; disaster recovery is tough and slow.

You have a number of items with flood damage. Some of those contents have coverage concerns based on where they were stored at the time of the loss.
