I've got some old silver coins - mostly Morgan dollars, Peace dollars, Mercury dimes - that I'd like to sell. None are "mint" condition. These were hoarded by my grandmother as she came across them in general circulation. Many are well worn.

Two questions:
1) Would these have any monetary value beyond the melt value?
2) Can anyone recommend a reputable company on the Northshore?

Probably not unless they have been graded.

Get ready for the same old shite. What you have isn’t worth much to them but what they have to sell to you is super valuable.

Am I morally obligated to hang on to every piece of 100 year old clutter my grandmother collected?

This website gives prices for graded coins, but will give you some idea of what the coins may be worth, it is sort of the gold standard. In the case of the MOrgan dollars there are specific years that are worth considerable more than others, you can figure that out from the price guide. If you have one of the more valuable years it may be worth paying to have it graded which will allow you to get maximize value and make it possible to sell online or at least know if a dealer is making a reasonable offer. The same is true for your other coins.

Blanchard & Co. They have offices in Mandeville and New Orleans. They deal with rare coins.

If they are in crappy shape and not worth much, maybe eBay or a pawn shop
