Looking for a non gas/propane generator back up solution for home.

Just looking for some ideas. Even low gas/propane generators to run 3 refrigerators and 2 window ac units. As well as an electric range.
Looking for some solutions. I have no clue where to start.
not part of the anti-fossil fuel crowd btw. Thanks in advance!

Two options: solar or hamsters

Your only other solutions would be wind/solar/hydro with a battery bank.

I’d suggest a small nuclear reactor in your back yard.

To me diesel is the only option. For Ida I had a 35 KW natural gas, liquid cooled Gen and it lasted less than 2 days. Problems with gas supply lead to lots of problems. The diesel I grabbed burned much less fuel and never had an issue. Also, I can always take a ride and find diesel I couldn’t do the same with gas.

Setup a windmill, I hear that increases house value especially if you are in a subdivision.

Propane?
And a generator that can power a 240 volt water pump for all those happily not on 'city' water lines.
If you spend any time reading Passive Solar books, they have the data in them (esp. the Rodale books) about the effect of eastern cloudy skies on solar input. West of the Mississippi is a whole 'nother world and much more productive of receiving solar. Then talk about deep cycle collector and storage batteries and their cost and life span.

Those manufactured by Toshiba are over $100m

Not sure where you live but check your HOA regs for a Windmill

Solar panels and battery backup, not cheap.

The problem with a seldom used diesel generator is that the fuel will go bad and cause many filter failures. You almost have to rotate fuel annually.

How about the gas/propane route? What solutions have you all used in the past or now. Examples?

I’ve been looking at these and some of the Yetizero stuff with the solar panels. I was originally looking at the smaller ones for camping and travel but as I get more and more worried about the future, I see more and more need for being able to survive/provide on my own.
