There was a neurosurgeon in the NELA area that killed several patients on the table.

Actually I'm not

But of course when a female poster disagrees...she is seen as bitter and angry. Especially if she doesn't have kids.

I totally get what Cosmo is trying to say and agree with the point he is trying to convey.

This isn't some third grade teacher deciding to be a SAHM...this is a neurosurgeon. A highly paid, prestigious surgical specialty.

ETA: I only took great offense when someone implied that I didn't have what it took to be a mother. Even though I've dedicated 17 years of my life caring for children (pediatrics will always be my true nursing passion) and have been through absolute hell the past 5 years trying to become a mom myself.

I know a neurosurgeon that decided she didn't want to practice and wanted to take up writing.

Coming home with the weight of her job on her shoulders seemed too much. She took things personal and beat herself up.

Ugly girls can have 15 degrees just so they can be on a campus/class. Especially when money is no issue.

Right, I said it just because you are a female and not because of the entire persona you've built here.

I think we should pass a law banning ugly girls from campus. They can go to BRCC and do their best to not be seen

When we have to set up death panels because of all the selfish women doctors quitting to let their offspring suck their tits dry I’m blaming this silly notion of equality. Just putting that on record.

Wife is a dentite. Told her she’s welcome to quit practicing any time she wants... after every last cent of her student loan is paid off.

neurosurgery isnt a specialty you could quit for 5 years and just jump back into like its nothing

she can go to seminars to keep current.

NIce thought, but it doesn't work that way for a highly specialized field like neurosurgery that requires both "book" knowledge and an extreme degree of hand/eye dexterity. Who would want to be "practice" surgical cases while she's trying to regain her surgical skills?

Not sure how neurosurgery is that much more difficult to pick back up than running casing in the Permian.

I’ve kept up with the advances in pressure washer design btw

Its not. They just to tell you that to satisfy their own egos. I mean hell, brains have been around a lot longer oil drilling has. It’s not it’s new science.

I mean... worst case scenario she can do some consultation work and still make insane amounts of money.

This.

I took 2.5 months off after my fellowship, mainly because it took that long to obtain my hospital privileges.

Was in training and residency 8 years, then after just 10 weeks off I was rusty as all hell.

You can’t just drop surgery for years at a time, go to some seminars, and pick it up again.
