Tied into that are state and municipal laws which are fricking stupid.

One is that you can’t transfer containers from a port approved truck to a non-approved truck within Cali, meaning you can’t just unload from the dock then switch trucks at a terminal.

The other is that cities like Long Beach put laws into place that limit stacking of containers to 2 high instead of 6 high like in other parts of the country, meaning you can’t store empties as easily because you have 1/3 the space you would in another area.

End result is that it ends up like someone’s impacted bowels where you need some form of laxative / irrigation / other work to loosen the blockage and let the shite flow.

My thoughts...exactly. My company currently have 4 containers at the port of Los Angeles. Every trucking company we tried to hire have been telling us they have the trucks to go get the containers but no chassis are available on SoCal. They've been trucking them in from out of state but that adds to our cost of importing materials and we'll have to pass it on to the products we produce. The ships are arriving faster than the chassis.

You're correct. This is another of many stupid regulations at the ports.

Do you remember when Obama signed the agreement in 2012 giving China control of America’s second-largest container port? When Trump was elected, one of the first thing he did was take the terminal of Long Beach back from the Chinese.

Why not use the damn commerce clause properly for a change and have congress vote to suspend all these stupid California rules that are creating this backlog and actually interfering with interstate commerce? I know the current congress would never do it, but its just frustrating to watch congress and the courts stick their fingers into every aspect of American life by appealing to a broad and sweeping commerce clause in the Constitution but failing to act on the crazy things that California does that really do impact interstate commerce.

Might be a good time to gobble up some land around Port Wentworth, Georgia. A major east coast shipping hub is about to get way busier.
