They've been popular in DFW for 4-5 years during the rainy spring & fall.

Here's the history of Hunter boots - and it has shite-all to do with "young people today" or bitches being crazy.

quote:

The “Wellie” boot was created in 1817 when the Duke of Wellington asked his shoemaker to create a boot he could wear in battle and with evening clothes. Other shoemakers copied the boot and created a rubberized version. Four decades later Henry Lee Norris, an American living in Scotland, started the North British Rubber Co. It made rubber boots, tires and golf balls. During World War I the company, which eventually became known as Hunter, produced 1.2 million rubber boots that soldiers could wear in trenches.

In 1977 Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, awarded Hunter boots a Royal Warrant, which designated the company as an official supplier to the royal family. The brand got its first celebrity exposure in 1981, when Princess Diana–then the shy, unstylish Lady Diana Spencer–wore green Hunter boots in her pre-makeover engagement photos. Under Todd, Hunter started playing up its association with the royals by making the Royal Warrant logo more prominent on the tags and packaging of Hunter boots. The royal connection is helpful now that Prince William, 26, and Prince Harry, 24, are part of the high-living social scene, says Todd: “We, as a brand, can capitalize on that.” (The princes do wear Hunters, says the company.)

In 2006 -

quote:

They cut costs by moving manufacturing from Scotland to China, raised the retail price of a pair of boots by 20% to $115, and started rolling out new colors, new liners and textured versions.

Hunters have always been pricy and were originally designed FOR A MAN, SPECIFICALLY A DUKE AND A SOLDIER.

Don't be jealous that y'all got stuck selling shitty popcorn while Girl Scouts were smarter and went the cookie route

Words you will never hear
"Is it Boy Scout popcorn time yet??!!"

Yeah I didn't have fond memories of peddling thin mints outside of Godcheaux's in the cold as a girl either

Our troop did get to take some fun trips each summer though cause of our sales.

It is a good fundraiser. We raked peoples yards and did car washes at churches to help pay for summer camp. I would rather have a product that sells itself

Hunters have been a thing for like the past 10 years.

ETA: my wife has Joules. Didn't like how plain the Hunters are.

The company that makes these boots started in the 1850s. While I wouldn't pay that much for a pair, I won't lose sleep over someone else doing so. Also, they've been "trendy" among the young, professional women set for at least the past five years, up here at least.

yeah GF has had some for a while

pricing of rubber boots aside, it's an old british country wear maker, these girls didn't pick up a look from South Louisiana and start to make it trendy

How much did Hunter boots cost in 1977 compared to today?

And don't even start saying shite about inflation because there not been nearly enough inflation to justify rubber boots costing $150.00.

Same with Barbour.

Plus, anything with a royal warrant is going to cost a bit more.

It is really nice...but in the mountain biking world...it is considered a pretty standard bike. Some of those serious in the sport will spend 10K on up on a bike and not blink twice.
