Probably what guys did in the past to get away from their wives. Bowling league, cards night, whatever. No one I know does shite like that anymore on the regular, probably because we are all entertained all the time and don’t feel the need to stay “connected” via regular in person activities.
People still do all that. And also, lots of families monitor how much time they spend on their phones. Only reason I’m on mine right now is wife is sick and kids in bed, 9 y/o is up reading Calvin and Hobbes. Nothing wrong with your question and it’s much more common than you think, hell I still have a desktop myself
ETA: And for those that say I’m a piece of shite for not letting my kids on devices at night while I’m on mine right now. I don’t disagree

So no one does them, indicating they don't really exist, but youre going to do them? You just going to go bowling by yourself partner?

People still do that, hell I still play cards with my buddies

Turning them into social recluses
The irony is thick with this one in myriad ways.

Damn right

No phones at all is a losing battle in 2018 and your kids will hate you for it. Set limits on how much they can use them each day and take them away after a certain time at night.

I'm assuming you mean I'm a social recluse, which couldn't be farther from the truth.
I got invited to three of my cousins weddings this year, thank you very much!

your kids will be social outcasts and probably shoot up their school. you should be held liable. good luck

Has nothing to do with you. My comment is referring to how the OP wants to instill more personal interaction in the home and how devices have ruined that for all of us. A return to a simpler time isn't destructive, People. Fostering social face to face integration is the opposite of social suicide. Kids need to get off the bed and knock on a door, go in and gasp, talk.

I have. A 17 YO daughter. My only. And she's put us through the BS let me tell you. And the phone thing is just like a clothes debate. The idea it's just the "norm" now to communicate or dress a certain way is still OUR responsibility to manage. I've told her 'I don't give a shite what all the other girls wear... we care about your perception, not theirs'. Same with a phone. Not a right, it's a priv.
I've also told her I've nevre met a single teen yet who is responsible for purchasing al their clothing or their phone usage. If she wants to test the adult responsibility waters and fund herself, she's totally welcome to. And I stick put my hand asking for the i9+. Still waiting for her to hand it over. Our rules or get busy.

Never would have thought.
Sounds like you’re doing a fine job in raising her.

Make sure she goes to Baylor, if she goes to a public school she'll be pregnant by the second semester of her sophomore year

Still no idea where she will go. Won't be Baylor. Wants to be a CRNA so we'll see.
I think our plan is to take her in for a tonsillectomy and add an ala carte Norplant. Just in case.
