They have a high stress job that they may not come home from one day and make way less money than I do.. I don’t care if they speed. My cruise control is set and I have tunes.

You can really mess with them with a dash cam

All they'd have to say is that they were responding to a call or pacing you or another car to write a speeding ticket. There are no repercussions for speeding cops
Actually you are very wrong in that statement, most Police Departments (city, parish, state, etc.) have trackers on vehicles that are now monitored by insurance companies. Police Departments as a whole pay outrageous insurance premiums on department vehicles based on the amount of time and miles department issued vehicles are on the road. Maybe 10 years ago your statement would be correct but now you are incredibly wrong and uninformed.

Get in front of him and brake-check.
I was driving along about 60 in a 55 in the right lane. A truck got right on my arse when the left lane was clear and this went on for about 3/4 mile. I brake checked him and was looking in the rear view mirror and could see him get on the brakes hard and his truck got a little squirrelly in the road. All of a sudden he turns on a blue light and sirens. I was thinking oh fuc . He got in the left lane and went by me and shot me a bird. I wrote his tag number down and had one of my buddies run it and the guy ended up being a police officer from about 2 counties over. I thought for sure I was fixing to get a ticket though.

An old friend-coworker of mine was killed by a cop who was doing 55 in a 20 with no lights on.
Did the cop try to justify it and did the agency back him up?

You’re flat out wrong. Cops can get pulled over in their own jurisdiction for speeding. Cops cannot speed unless they have their lights on and are either responding to a call or in pursuit.
You got a lot of downvotes for this, but I have a few friends that are NOPD and this is what I was told. Cops can not speed and even with lights on 10mph over the speed limit is illegal. I also have a friend that was fired from the NOPD for getting in an accident in a high speed chase.
Also to the people that say they can just say they were responding to a call. Well they are cops and can say whatever they want, but if responding to a call they should have their lights on.
Either way I’ve heard some stories. Don’t frick with cops, you will not win.

What type of unit was he in... asking for a friend of course.
Have seen him in a marked car, and a marked suv. Normally it's the marked car.
